Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy

Guidelines for Authors:

Authors of articles may not use secondary prompts or establish a prompt network in the manuscripts they submit to the journal.

Authors are expected to comply with the journal’s principles; if they use an initial prompt or supplementary prompts, they must report their use in the manuscript submitted to the journal.

If a manuscript was created using AI, it will become training data for the AI; therefore, authors must declare its use on the form provided by Horizonte Digital, where they must indicate:

  • Name, version, provider, and date of the AI model(s) used.

  • The part of the process where it was used.

  • Type of use (content or format).

  • Main prompts or instructions used (it is recommended to keep a record of prompts and be prepared to provide this information if requested).

Guidelines for Reviewers:

AI should not substitute for or replace the responsibility of individuals assigned to the review role; therefore, they may not use secondary prompts or establish a prompt network in the manuscripts they evaluate for the journal.

If AI is used, reviewers must complete the form provided by Horizonte Digital, indicating the following:

  • Name, version, provider, and date of the AI model(s) used.

  • The part of the process where it was used.

  • Type of use (content or format).

  • Main prompts or instructions used.

If AI is used, the editorial team or management must be notified. In this case, the journal will inform the authors when reviewers have used AI as a tool for manuscript review.

Use of AI by Editorial Management:

The editorial role must be carried out by people, not by automated systems; AI should not substitute for or replace the responsibilities of editors or their accountability. The use of AI is considered a potential tool to support the editorial process.

The Horizonte Digital editorial team may use AI tools to assist with the following tasks:

Creating images to promote published articles on social media.

When AI is used for this purpose, the editorial team must notify the authors if parts of the article or the entire article are uploaded to any tool, as this could result in the content being used as training data. In this case, the model, version, date, and purpose of use must also be documented and communicated to the author.

Noncompliance:

Noncompliance or the detection of improper practices in the use of artificial intelligence may result in a request for correction or withdrawal of the manuscript.
